“I spied on you when you were practicing,” I said, absently tapping on my camera.

Eying the long lens I had attached to it, he gave me a sideways look.
“Oooookay.”

I grinned.
“I think perhaps…”
(and yes, I really said perhaps just to make the next part of my statement that much more annoying)
“…I’ll spy on you with this baby when you’re on your first date.”
He shook his head, rolled his eyes and ambled to the car (he doesn’t just walk anymore. There’s a rhythm to it…a teenager boy rhythm). A few minutes later, while I was trying to convince the girls to climb down from the monkey bars so we could go home, he came back at me.
“Hey Mom? I just decided what I am definitely taking with me on my first date.”
“What?” I said, distracted by the task of looking for Evie’s lost shoe.

“That lens.”
There are several benefits to having a decent zoom lens in your camera bag. Not the least of which is spying on your kids when they think you’re keeping your distance.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Reading that made me smile so big! LOVE the “candidness” of these photos.
I just might have to invest in one of *these* lenses asap.
Love that you spied on him.
That is SO sweet! I love that first shot especially.
Better hide that lens in a few years.
I think the girl would think he was the coolest kid ever if he took your camera and that lens on his first date.
We must stop this growing immediately.
He is adorable. LOVE the pictures!
it’s amazing how tolerant our kids are of us! i love my telefoto too!
What a quick thinking kid!
Think I might be getting a little green with lens envy!
Ooh, reason 99,999 why I want a D-SLR camera – being able to add one of ‘those’ lenses so I can spy on my kids!
I love it. A sneaky mom who will be outsmarted by a sneaky teen. The thought and your photos make me smile.
that is a great advantage to having a zoom lens–fun shots.
Zoom lenses are so great for spying! Hee. Hee. Didn’t have time to finish my PSF this week.
I was annoyed, but work has to come first unfortunately.
“…I’ll spy on you with this baby when you’re on your first date.” that’s so mommy and so mean!
