Eying the long lens I had attached to it, he gave me a sideways look.

“Oooookay.”

I grinned.

“I think perhaps…”

(and yes, I really said perhaps just to make the next part of my statement that much more annoying)

“…I’ll spy on you with this baby when you’re on your first date.”

He shook his head, rolled his eyes and ambled to the car (he doesn’t just walk anymore. There’s a rhythm to it…a teenager boy rhythm). A few minutes later, while I was trying to convince the girls to climb down from the monkey bars so we could go home, he came back at me.

“Hey Mom? I just decided what I am definitely taking with me on my first date.”

“What?” I said, distracted by the task of looking for Evie’s lost shoe.

There are several benefits to having a decent zoom lens in your camera bag. Not the least of which is spying on your kids when they think you’re keeping your distance.
